Interpretation of the work by the artist :
For this painting, the artist had in mind a woman who points a direction with her finger in the company of two children. The notion of learning accompanied the original image. A mother who explains life to her children by pointing to something or a future situation in the distance, outside the canvas. The artist likes to stage characters. Here the attention of the characters is off canvas. Looking for a model, she took a photo of herself with her two children sitting on the kitchen table. Then she installed the three people on top of her favorite tree, a baobab. It takes a step back, height to have a more global view of the situation, to be able perhaps in the future to make the right decisions. The painter also wanted to paint this staging in the light, against the light. The sun is behind the little boy. A luminous and soothing feeling emerges.
Inspiration : the artist and his two children
Completion time : 15 hours
Incubation time between idea and realization : 14 months
Painting challenge: painting against the light. Paint the shadow dark enough to bring out the light. Quite an apprenticeship for Géraldine.
A painting, a poem
"Living against the light"
What does it mean to “live against the light”?
Live in the shade of the sun?
Sailing in full light?
Against the grain, really?
To always thirst for life
and tend towards infinity
Reach out, touch the invisible,
Hope there, hidden at the end of a branch.
Go look over there, children
but stay present in the moment
You will see as you grow.
Outside the web, it's good.
